Burning to disc has now become the most easy and efficient way to store and display digital photography, but software is needed to prepare information for transfer. DVD Picture Show from Ulead is the latest offering, and allows you to use your CD or DVD burner to create custom slide-shows.
The interface is very easy to operate, adhering to step-by-step templates.
You start by choosing whether you are creating a VCD or a DVD, and then compile your images. You can take these from any source, be it a computer's hard disk, a digital camera, a webcam or similar image-capturing peripheral.
Once you have got the pictures from whichever source you are using, drag them from the menu onto the selected image bar. You can rotate images through 90 degrees and rearrange their order of appearance by using the Thumbnail Arrange button.
After you have decided which shots go where, you can add some background music. There are some truly terrible audio tracks included, and it is best to avoid them.
Alternatively, you can use any MP3 file for your musical score. It is annoying that you can only use one file for each show, as the music might have to loop and start again.
Before burning to disc, you can preview how your finished presentation will look, which is useful for last-minute alterations. As the software has its own CD- and DVD-creation tools, it is very easy to burn straight to your chosen media. We experienced no problems when doing this. However, be sure to check that your intended DVD player accepts CD-RW and CD-R discs before burning, as some players do not support all the different types.
