Anyone who has used a search engine knows how difficult it is to find what you're looking for from the millions of sites available. And those in business know how much harder it is to promote services via the internet.
Aimed at business users, Net Prospector trawls through the endless wealth of information on the web, and draws out of the abyss the sites and contact details of anyone who could be interested in what you have to offer.
The program itself is well laid out and easy to follow, and there is a good tutorial video to get you started after installation. Paper-based instructions are few and far between but everything is self-explanatory.
As soon as you open the program, you are greeted with a 'Tips and Tricks' dialog box which recommends the best way to carry out a search.
Net Prospector uses popular search engines to find the information you're after, so if you entered '+South London +caterers', the program would interrogate 15 different UK-based search sites for those criteria.
While searching, you can view each website that is picked up and scroll through any contacts contained within.
Unfortunately, while Net Prospector can find hundreds of related sites, contact details are often scarce as they tend not to appear on the homepage - which seems to be where the program looks.
This fact, coupled with the time it takes to complete any search, makes the product barely any better than a free search engine.
