Ontrack ZipMagic 4.0

There are some utilities no discerning PC user should be without, and one of them is a manager for zipped (compressed) files. Ontrack's ZipMagic is the best. And it just got better.

In these days of multi-gigabyte hard drives, file compression is now more commonly used for shrinking files for transmission over the internet.

Ontrack has realised this and built a number of improvements into ZipMagic 4. For users of Microsoft and Eudora email clients, an icon can be set to appear within the application or configured to zip all attachments automatically. Users can zip attachments just by dropping them on to the icon appearing on outgoing messages.

ZipMagic's biggest selling point is that it allows zipped files to appear as normal folders. Rather than going through the process of manually compressing and extracting their contents, they can be opened, viewed and manipulated without having to master a new program and its procedures. This makes ZipMagic a painless addition to your Desktop and sets it apart from other compression programs.

There are no worries about mastering ZipMagic's more advanced functions either: eight different wizards are included, which guide you through all the useful processes associated with zipping files. For example, you can create a self-executing Zip file to send with an email to a friend who does not have ZipMagic. You choose the appropriate file, a destination, and the task is complete within seconds.

Another unique tool is the viewer. Documents can be viewed below the main ZipMagic window without unzipping them, and more than 200 file formats are supported.

With its new option of zipping for email, ZipMagic 4 follows its predecessors as one of the most user-friendly compression tools on the market.
