At time of writing, publishing house Hungry Minds is due to print its 100 millionth copy in the For Dummies series.
Just over 10 years ago John Kilcullen overheard a conversation at a bookstore, where a customer asked for an easy to understand book about DOS. "One for dummies," the punter said.
When Kilcullen later suggested the title to colleagues they were worried that customers would be insulted, but the idea for the books grew and 3,000 titles and 39 languages later his company has reached the 100 million mark.
Kilcullen is now chief executive and chairman of Hungry Minds and has seen the books cover an amazing range of topics.
During the years the subject matter has ranged from DOS for Dummies and Windows for Dummies, to Sex for Dummies and Choosing a Dog for Dummies.
The 100 millionth book is a copy of Microsoft Windows XP for Dummies, and Hungry Minds is planning book signings and celebrations all over the world.
