Megapixel madness hits cameras

Digital imaging has never been more popular, with some of the top manufacturers launching a clutch of new digital cameras.

Agfa's new ePhoto CL30 Clik! is the first digital camera we've seen that includes an Iomega Clik! drive for storage. The camera boasts a 1 million-pixel resolution and can store up to 60 high-resolution or 360 low-resolution pictures on a single 40Mb Clik! disk and retails for £350.

Kodak has not only reissued its 1-megapixel DC215 zoom with a new gold metallic finish and USB card reader (£299.99) but has also launched a new camera designed for Palm handheld computers. The PalmPix is a compact, lightweight unit that acts as an extension to the Palm. It costs just £149.

Both Olympus and Nikon have announced cameras with a 3.34-megapixel resolution.

Nikon's Coolpix 990 launches at the end of April and is expected to cost about £1,000, while the Olympus C-3030ZOOM is already available for just £799.99.

Ricoh is set to launch two new cameras - the first of these, the RDC-6000, has a 2.14 megapixel resolution and will retail for £379 when it goes on sale at the end of May. The second model, the RDC-7, is capable of capturing an unprecedented 7 million pixels and will be available from July. Pricing has yet to be confirmed. All quoted prices include VAT.
