This month sees new monitors arriving from screen stars Sony, Taxan and Mitsubishi.
Taxan has announced a new budget 17in monitor to add to the Valuevision range. The Valuevision 1710 TCO99 has an FST cathode ray tube making it flatter and squarer, and is optimised for the VESA standard. With a 16in viewable screen, the 1710 is capable of a resolution up to 1280x1024 at 65Hz, and costs £163.32.
Japanese giant Sony has also unveiled an array of new monitors. The Multiscan G400 and G500 are aimed at the business and specialist audience, and use Sony's FD (Flat Display) CRT technology. Both monitors have new MALS (lens) and EFEAL (aperture) technology, allowing for a perfect picture right up to the edge of the display. The former, capable of a resolution up to 1600x1200, costs £558.12, with the latter, which can go up to 1800x440, costing £910.62.
Also new from Sony are the budget Multiscan E400 (19in) and E500 (21in) models, targeted at home and SME users. Again using Sony's FD Trinitron technology, the former costs, £468.82, with the price of the E500 yet to be set.
Finally to Mitsubishi, which has launched a value-for-money 15in monitor. The CRT Diamond Scan 50 has an improved OSD (on screen display) and is capable of a resolution of up to 1280x1024, at 65Hz. It costs £128.
As far as health and safety is concerned, the monitor is probably the most important piece of PC kit you'll buy. Here's what to look out for. 14 Jul 2001
