The power of PC processors continues to race ahead as Intel announces not one, but two new chips to power PCs on into 2000.
The cheap-and-mostly-cheerful Celeron has arrived at the 533MHz mark, while the flagship Pentium III has reached 800MHz - matching its AMD rival.
Predictably, most major manufacturers have announced new PCs built around the latest chips, including Mesh and Gateway.
Mesh has also just taken the wraps off its newest system - the 500XLM, featuring a 500MHz Intel Pentium III processor. Costing a few pounds proud of £1,200, the 500XLM comes with 128Mb of memory, 10-speed DVD-ROM drive, 10Gb hard disk and a 16Mb Voodoo 3 AGP graphics card. A 19in monitor, a56Kbits/s modem and a three-year warranty also come as part of the deal.
