Notebook manufacturers are gearing up for Christmas with a raft of new products, most powered by mobile Pentium III processors.
NEC, with its Versa LXi, is now supplying a 500MHz PIII system with a magnesium case, a 15in TFT monitor, up to 18Gb of hard drive space and a maximum 256Mb of RAM, with prices starting at £2,348.82.
AJP has also launched a range of PIII notebooks, with the top model sporting the powerful 600MHz PIII. The basic PIII 450MHz model comes with a 14.1in TFT monitor, 128Mb of RAM and a 6.4Gb hard drive, coming in at £1,761.32.
Toshiba has launched a 500MHz PIII notebook, the Tecra 8000, aimed at the corporate market. Costing £3,284.12, it comes with 64Mb of RAM, a 6Gb hard drive and a 14.in TFT display.
Hi-Grade is another manufacturer promoting the PIII with its Notino AS7400, a 450MHz notebook with a 10Gb removable hard disk, a 14.1in TFT screen and 160Mb of RAM, at a price of £2,113.82.
Finally, at the other end of the scale, Sony's has redesigned its chic PictureBook CF1. The C1XN is billed as the Visual Notebook PC and features a 266MHz Celeron processor and a 6.4Gb hard disk along with built-in digital video. The system weighs in at just under 1kg and costs £1,702.57. Expect a review soon.
