As the price of notebook computers continues its journey south, new models from Fujitsu, Sony, Time, Dell, Umax and Samsung are all jostling for consumers' attention.
Sony has beefed up its range of ultra-slim Vaio notebooks with three new machines. The low-end PCG-F250/LT, with an asking price of £1203.20, features a 366MHz Celeron processor, a 4.3Gb hard disk and 32Mb of RAM.
Time's £1408.83 400-2 Mobile Office is powered by a 400MHz AMD K6-2.
It has 128Mb of RAM, a 10Gb hard disk and a 12.1in TFT screen.
Dell's Inspiron 7000 has a choice of 400MHz processors - either Celeron or Pentium II - coupled with a 15in screen. Prices start from £2113.83.
The C-Series from Fujitsu consists of three new models. Prices start at £1462.88 for a machine with a 4.3Gb hard disk and 333MHz Celeron processor.
Umax's cheapest model, the Actionbook 335T, boasts a 350MHz AMD K6-2 processor, a 4.3Gb hard disk, 32Mb of RAM and a 12.1in TFT screen. It costs £1056.33.
Samsung is asking £2599 for a shiny new GT6400XV. That buys you a notebook PC with a 400MHz Pentium II processor, 128Mb of RAM, a 15.1in display, 10.1Gb hard disk and a 56Kbits/s modem.
