It looks like it's going to be a busy summer for PC vendors, with no less than five companies unveiling new systems.
Tiny claims its Ultra Performance 550, a Pentium III 550MHz-powered system, fitted with the latest NVIDIA TNT2 graphics accelerator, is the fastest PC around at the moment.
Together with a 17in monitor, 128Mb of RAM, a DVD-ROM drive, a 56Kbits/s modem, a TV tuner card and a gargantuan 17Gb hard disk drive, the whole caboodle will cost you £1,761.33. At the other end of the price scale, the company's new Celeron 300MHz-based Internet Starter system costs a mere £468.83.
From Tiny to Big Blue as IBM updates its Aptiva range with the introduction of new AMD-powered systems. The £1,299 E Series 275 is a typical example, fitted with a K6-2 450MHz processor, 64Mb of RAM and an 8Gb hard disk.
Time's offering, the 550-3 DVD Time Professional, features a 550MHz Pentium III and costs £1,444.08, while HP's new 466MHz Celeron-powered Vectra sells for around £690.
Not to be outdone, Compaq has launched a low-end Presario. For £699, the corporate giant will kit you out with the Presario 5166, a PC sporting a 333MHz K6-2 processor, 32Mb of RAM and a 4Gb hard disk.
