Logitech Cordless Desktop iTouch

Cords have never been particularly fashionable and can be decidedly deadly when they get trapped under books or wrapped around cups of tea. We are, of course, talking about the cords that poke out of mice and keyboards.

There is a solution, however. Logitech's iTouch mouse and keyboard work by radio waves rather than infrared. The main advantage of this is that the receiver (which plugs into a PC's regular mouse and keyboard sockets) does not need line-of-sight to work and so can be kept out of the way.

Range is also improved. You can sit with your feet up and the keyboard on your lap, or use the mouse from a distance where you cannot actually see the mouse pointer.

The iTouch epithet suggests an iMac influence, but the name actually refers to the software that works with the keyboard's extra buttons. Four of these can be programmed to launch applications or jump to websites; the others act as transport controls for a variety of media players. The idea is that you can perform common tasks quickly without the mouse.

The keyboard has a pleasant action, but it lacks a little in the tactility department. The mouse is pear-shaped with two buttons and a wheel that can scroll any application. It suits both left and right-handers.
