If you need some more information regarding Star Wars you'd be well advised to grab a copy of this CD-ROM from LucasArts, because Behind the Magic is devoted to everyone's favourite galaxy far, far away. Collected on to two CDs, LucasArts has put together a Star Wars Encarta full of facts and figures as well as dozens of clips from the films.
The menu is split into sections - such as Technology, Characters, and Timeline - which, when clicked, split into sub-sections. It's all here.
Every character you can think of, with photo galleries for fans of Han and Leia (yes, there are plenty of shots of her in the brass bikini get-up), as well as the history of SW characters before and after Episodes IV-VI.
George Lucas has sanctioned the extension of the Star Wars story 25 years beyond Return of the Jedi, to the point where Leia and Han are married with children who are training to be Jedi! So, any confused souls out there can catch up by clicking on Timeline, which covers almost every event in Star Wars history.
As well as the extraordinary depth of information covering what fans have already seen, there are a few priceless 'out-take' clips from Star Wars, including a hilariously camp exchange between Luke and his 'cool' friends on Tatooine.
There is an Expanded Universe section to deal with the proliferation of SW collectibles and comics that have appeared over the last 20 years, as well as a valuable glossary for those who don't know their Bantha from their Biggs Darklighter.
Unfortunately, those expecting to see lots of Episode 1 material will be diappointed. There is little here that you can't get from the Internet - in fact, the official Lucas site at www.starwars. com has far more to offer.
Don't buy this release of Behind the Magic expecting to see a proper glimpse of the new film, but what you will get is an excellent diversion while you ponder the exciting prospect of living in the cinema this summer.
