Sony has launched the Cybershot DSC-F55, the first digital camera to make use of the Japanese giant's new Memory Stick.
The Cybershot has a two-megapixel resolution (1,600x1,200), and can store up to 40 images on a 16Mb Memory Stick.
The Memory Stick is Sony's proprietary answer to existing flash memory card standards, like CompactFlash and SmartMedia. About the size of a stick of chewing gum, Memory Sticks are currently available in four, eight and 16Mb flavours. A 32Mb Stick is due later this year.
At the other end of the price and quality scale, Premier Electronics has introduced the Probe 99 digital camera. Priced at just £135, the pocket-sized Probe 99 offers a 640x480 resolution and the ability to store up to 18 images in its memory.
