One in 10 Brits favours slapping an anti-social behaviour order (ASBO) on 'inconsiderate' mobile phone users, according to a survey by comparison website Moneysupermarket.com.

The survey canvassed the opinion of 2,000 UK adults on their pet mobile phone hates.

The results suggest that more than half of us regard a 12-month ban on using a handset in public as a fair punishment for talking too loudly on the phone in public.

Other major annoyances cited by respondents include mobile users who play music too loudly, swear into the phone in public and make calls while in restaurants.

Men proved to be most in favour of ASBO-style punishments. Two-thirds were keen on a year-long ban for anti-social mobile phone behaviour, compared to just 50 per cent of women.
