Microsoft has sacked its chief information officer for violating the company's internal policies.

"We can confirm that Stuart Scott was terminated after an investigation for violation of company policies, and have no further information to share," a company spokesperson told vnunet.com.

Scott's biography on Microsoft's website was updated on Monday and now states that his "employment at Microsoft ended in early November 2007".

Prior to joining Microsoft in 2005, Scott worked for 17 years in various roles at General Electric.

He will be replaced by Shahla Aly and corporate vice president Alain Crozier until a replacement is found.
