Samsung has been
showing off two mobile handsets which it claims are the slimmest in the world.
The new X820 smartphone is just 6.9mm thick, about the same as an
iPod Nano, and weighs just 66g. It comes with a
2-megapixel camera and TV output port, and will be released across Europe this
summer.
The second handset is claimed to be the world's thinnest slider phone, at
just 13mm and 93g. The D900 comes with a 3-megapixel camera and removable
storage.
"Ergonomically designed to become one with the user, Samsung's slim phones
deliver the perfect harmony of comfort, simplicity and sophistication," said
Kitae Lee, president of Samsung's telecommunication network business.
"Samsung's ultra-slim phones are dedicated to bringing people together. With
its exceptional design and thinness, the X820 will become one with the user, one
with others, and one with the world."
Phones have been getting steadily slimmer over the years as chipsets have
shrunk and new battery technologies like lithium polymer units have allowed
designers more flexibility.
The popularity of
Motorola's
Razr handset has shown a strong demand for the slim,
light handset.
