Salesforce has agreed to acquire Sendia for $15m in cash.

Sendia develops technology that makes enterprise applications work on mobile devices such as the BlackBerry, Palm Treo and Windows Mobile PDAs.

Salesforce has rebranded the application AppExchange Mobile and plans to use it to 'mobilise' enterprise applications that are offered through its AppExchange service.

Salesforce chief executive Marc Benioff said in a statement: "AppExchange Mobile solves key issues for both our customers and our partners. Our customers are eager for ways to extend their on-demand applications to the mobile workforce, and developers need a painless way to address this major opportunity. "

"With AppExchange Mobile, there is no extra coding needed to develop an application on AppExchange and mobile-enable it."

Salesforce launched its AppExchange service last January. The service aims to attract third party software developers and have them offer their products through Salesforce's hosted application platform. The service currently offers more than 60 applications.

The mobile service is available for $50 per user per month to Enterprise Edition and Professional Edition subscribers. It is free for users of the Unlimited Edition subscription plan.
