Wireless developer buys Trigenix for $36m

Wireless developer Qualcomm has acquired UK mobile software firm Trigenix for $36m.

The deal gives Qualcomm access to Trigenix's user interface development technologies, products and tools.

Combined with Qualcomm's BREW client software, this will offer "additional substantial advantages" to Qualcomm's existing user interface offerings for operators and device manufacturers, the company said.

Adding Trigenix technologies, including the Trigplayer, provides an expanded user interface development tool set that allows BREW operators and device manufacturers to custom build core phone functions such as address books, messaging menus, navigation methods, colour schemes and icon styles.

"Qualcomm's acquisition of Trigenix marks a significant next step in the company's efforts to bring enhanced 3G wireless data services to Europe, and illustrates our resolve to support wireless operators, device manufactures and developers on the continent," said Peggy Johnson, president of Qualcomm Internet Services, in a statement.

"Trigenix is an acknowledged leader in mobile user interface technology and we are pleased to embark on this next stage of our BREW business with them.

"This acquisition greatly improves the ability for customers offering BREW-based services as well as operators and handset manufacturers to reduce time-to-market and grow their wireless data business."

Steve Ives, Trigenix chief executive, added: "Joining a wireless leader such as Qualcomm, and strengthening our relationship with the worldwide community of BREW publishers, developers, operators and handset manufacturers, provides an excellent chance to advance Trigenix technology and better meet the need for customisable user interface products and services."
