Oracle has taken the wraps off Oracle Supply Chain Management 11i.10, claiming that it can boost profits by helping customers to eliminate waste, comply with government regulations and improve collaboration.
Key enhancements include support for radio frequency ID-enabled transactions that can automatically track inventory movement throughout the supply chain.
The database giant said that the product had been designed to cope with companies outsourcing supply chain operations to regions around the globe by supporting the management of regional customer forecasts, inventory levels and resource utilisation across multiple geographies.
SCM 11i.10 incorporates support for multiple currencies, languages and time zones. International drop shipment capabilities have been added to help companies meet customer demands regardless of physical location.
Don Klaiss, senior vice president of Oracle supply chain management, explained that the product could be tailored to meet the needs of multiple verticals including high-tech, healthcare and industrial manufacturing.
"The latest release of Oracle SCM will help companies take advantage of the great return on investment opportunities associated with creating collaborative global operations, enabling a lean enterprise and managing compliance and risk," he said in a statement.
The controversial tracking technology looks set to make a big impression this year, as more retailers prepare to explore its possibilities. 09 Jan 2004
