AMD launches mobile Athlon XP 1800+

AMD has launched its latest mobile processor aimed at business and home consumers.

Three notebook vendors have announced systems based on the chip, which AMD said enables a "cooler, quieter notebook PC".

Hewlett Packard (HP), Acer and Time Computers all said that their notebooks based on the mobile Athlon XP 1800+ are available immediately.

The HP and Acer machines are available in the US, and Time's laptop is available in Europe.

"AMD's high-performance mobile processors enable infrastructure partners to jump-start system performance by offering notebook PCs based on the mobile Athlon XP processor and DDR memory," said AMD in a statement.

It added that systems featuring DDR memory can provide business users with performance gains on memory intensive applications such as internet content creation and office productivity.

The company said that the chip includes support for its 3DNow Professional instruction set for enhanced multimedia capabilities, and its PowerNow technology for extended battery life.

It is compatible with AMD's Socket A infrastructure, and supports the advanced 200MHz and 266MHz Athlon front-side bus options.
