Apple has created a new iMac that can fit into a desk. Designed especially for schools, the eMac has a 700MHz processor and 17-inch screen.
The computer will allow different resolutions on the screen to let teachers and pupils view large documents and websites at a glance.
The move is widely seen as a counter to Microsoft's dominance in schools with its various PC programmes.
Apple is yet to confirm pricing details but, if it is going to compete with Microsoft, it will need to offer deals that schools can afford.
The eMac closely resembles the original incarnation of the iMac, except that it folds together into a tighter package to fit into a conventional school desk.
While we're still hoping for a G4 iMac, this latest machine is no slouch and, at £1199, it's reasonable value when everything is considered. 15 Feb 2002
