Toshiba has released its thinnest ever notebook. The Portege 2000 weighs just over 1kg and is under 2cm thick.
It features a full-size keyboard, 12-inch TFT screen, 20Gb hard drive and built-in support for wireless networking.
The notebook uses Intel's Pentium Tualatin ultra low voltage processor and SpeedStep technology which extends battery life.
Gary Evans, head of UK business development at Toshiba, said: "This new notebook is ideal for frequent flyers who have to take into account weight limitations, and those who like lighter machines."
The company has focused heavily on its mobile computing range and even announced that it would stop making desktops in the US last year.
Recent figures from Gartner ranked Toshiba as the second highest selling mobile computing vendor in the UK.
Notebook users feel they are more productive than their counterparts with less portable machines but admit that they also work longer hours, perhaps because they don't make full use of all the functions offered by the computers. 26 Mar 2001
