Microsoft has announced pricing details for the Xbox launch in Japan. The console will retail for 34,800 yen (£184) with 12 games available when it goes on sale on 22 February.
It is a kick in the teeth for UK gamers who will have to fork out a whopping £299 when it launches here on 14 March.
The Xbox will compete with Sony's PlayStation 2 which, according to Sony, has now reached sales of eight million in North America and 20 million overall due to high sales over the Christmas period.
As Microsoft steams into the gaming world, we wonder if the Xbox has what it takes to toast Sony's PlayStation 2. Not quite, but it's going to be a good fight. 11 Jan 2002
