First there was digital television, now there's digital radio. You can receive digital radio either through a digital TV, over the internet or with a digital radio receiver, such as the Terratec DR Box 1.
The DR Box 1 can be connected to your PC or hi-fi system in the same way as any other separate. It connects to a PC using USB and comes with software and an aerial to enable it to receive any of the new digital radio channels, such as BBC 6 and Radio 5 Live Extra.
When you connect the receiver to your PC, you get more than just the added information that comes with digital radio, such as station information.
You also get artist names, tour dates and lots of other details. With the provided software, you can also record straight to your hard drive using either WAV or MP2 file formats.
Using the DR Box 1 is fiddly, though. The user interface isn't that intuitive and finding stations can take some time, even when you have a good signal.
And it's expensive for what it is, when you consider that digital radio technology and the number of channels available still need to gain momentum.
However, if you can't wait for crystal clear radio, then it might be worth it.
