UK e-business and banking websites are crashing because of poor testing and lack of back-end integration, industry experts have warned.

Bloor Research director Rob Hailstone said that many network managers believe that installing e-business systems is just a matter of strapping a new front-end onto existing systems with no additional testing of back-end infrastructure.

"Network managers are under pressure to get these sites up and running, and they forget that they really need to have multiple system checks across the entire network," Hailstone said.

He warned that it is vital for e-business infrastructures to be able to cope with the sort of capacity that online trading will generate, and that transactions that traditionally have been carried out by humans are successfully duplicated electronically.

"There are numerous agencies and software packages that will test e-business systems properly. However, these are hardly ever used," Hailstone added.E-business monitoring company ImagoQA said many network managers run their sites on blind faith rather than sensible networking practice and testing.

"Far too many high profile e-businesses and on-line banking websites are crashing because of a blind faith that they will work first time and keep on working without proper testing," said marking director of ImagoQA, Colin Willes.
