French search company Exalead has launched three products in its new CloudView range: CloudView 360°, CloudView OEM and Cloudview Search. Cloudview is based on one:enterprise, Exalead’s existing suite of enterprise search products, but uses a new architecture to allow greater scalability.
“The CloudView product set is about getting information from the cloud: information which is internal to your organisation, both from unstructured sources, such as emails and file systems and Word documents, and from structured sources such as databases,” said Raymond Bentinck, Exalead’s managing director.
Bentinck said that Exalead’s products were unusual in being able to perform up-to-date searches of structured data sources: “If you use a business intelligence application, that’s fine for historical information because you take information out of the database and put it into a data warehouse. But we can do the search and querying of those information sources straight away over billions of documents and structured data items.”
Along with Recommind, Exalead has also made an appearance in the visionary section of Gartner's 2008 Magic Quadrant for information access technology. In their research note about the quadrant, Gartner analysts Whit Andrews and Rita Knox said, “Exalead has demonstrated the ability to handle extremely heavy search traffic, including 800-query-per-second ‘spikes’ on a popular site with 15 million documents.”
Currently, Exalead operates mainly in Europe, but Bentinck said that the company was in the process of expanding its North America operation extensively.
