Centrica has outsourced part of its IT infrastructure including its data centre operations and desktop support services, affecting more than 23,000 users.

The utility giant will transfer 230 staff to T-Systems, the managed services division of Deutsche Telekom, when it hands over responsibility on 1 March.

‘Centrica’s partnership with T-Systems will build on the considerable investment we have made in our infrastructure over the last three years,’ said Centrica IS operations director Sean Dewhurst.

‘We share the same vision and commitment to providing the highest standard of delivery across our data centre and desktop support services.’

T-Systems, which is aiming to double its international revenue share to 30 per cent by 2010, has also acquired two data centres as part of the deal.

Last year, Centrica moved a £400m transformation programme in-house from outsourcing partner Accenture because of delays in SAP migration and termination of legacy billing systems.
