Accepting an invitation to view a friend's holiday video used to guarantee an evening of random shots held together by glimpses of the ground. With a PC and EditStudio3, all this should become a thing of the past.

This latest version improves on the basic features and adds many advanced ones suited to experienced movie-buffs. Owners of older computers and small monitors should have no fear as EditStudio3 will run happily from a basic resolution of just 800 x 600 up to 1600 x 1200, thereby making the best use of available space.

The program's navigation is based on the Windows Explorer layout, incorporating the well-known timeline method of putting a movie together. This is layer-based so you can put each sequence of shots on a separate line, overlap different scenes and produce fade and mix effects.

On-screen icons include Capture, Storyboard, Timeline and Build functions, all at the click of a mouse.

Clips can be captured directly from a camcorder, using an analogue capture card or FireWire if you have a digital video camera. Imported footage is saved to a Project Library where it can be split into separate scenes and roughly edited.

When you are satisfied, the finished movie can be recorded to videotape, via a camcorder, using a video capture card, or copied to CD-R for playback on a PC or a DVD player.

This comprehensive program incorporates all the basic editing functions plus plenty of advanced features to experiment with when you are confident.

EditStudio3 is an extremely powerful and well designed video-editing program that provides an excellent introduction to PC video editing for the home movie enthusiast, at an affordable price.
