Barclays has upgraded its online banking service, in anticipation of a rush of web-based customers. It predicts that as many as 10 million people will be banking via the internet within a year, so to meet their needs, and those of its existing 450,000 online customers, it has spruced up its service.
New features include the ability to transfer your money to any UK bank account straightaway or at a future date and access to the online bank from home or work. You can also cancel, amend and set up regular payments and download your account information to financial software packages like Microsoft Money.
Peter Duffy, head of online banking at Barclays, said: "As demand explodes, Barclays will be ready to meet this need. Internet banking is all about offering our customers convenience and choice."
The new service isn't the only thing the bank has to tempt new customers; it's also offering its first internet product deal. All online customers will be exempt from the £150 booking fee if they want to secure a Barclays Tracker Mortgage. Other web-based offers are planned for the future.
