While digital cameras offer more features than their SLR counterparts, using them isn't always as simple as the traditional point-and-shoot models. Just navigating some cameras' menu systems can be a challenge, so it's great to find HP's new Photosmart R507 packed with user-friendly options.

It's a 4.1-megapixel camera with a 3x optical zoom and has a good quality Pentax lens, which produced some sharp shots. HP has integrated a technology called Adaptive Lighting, which automatically adjusts contrast and brightness settings to make colours more vivid. There's also an excellent built-in red-eye removal tool that works straight from the camera.

However, it's the ease of use that makes this camera stand out. Each mode or setting does is all explained on the screen, and even the various 'flash' options are accompanied with text. What's more, a tips section explains what each button does and there are suggestions for better photography.

The 32Mb of internal memory can hold 12 photos at the maximum quality setting and 210 at the lowest. There's an SD memory card slot and a video mode for taking low-resolution footage.

The only let down is the small screen, which isn't as responsive as other 4-megapixel cameras in this price bracket.
