The Evesham Voyager WS A25 is a well-balanced notebook with just about every feature that you would expect to find in a desktop. Even before the lid is opened, this notebook can be used in some capacity. On the front lip are buttons and a small display for playing music from a CD. The volume is controlled with a rotary dial on the right-hand side of the case.

It's powered by an AMD Athlon XP 2500+. While not the fastest notebook processor available, the generous provision of 512Mb of memory means that performance will not be an issue for some time to come. The Mobility Radeon 9600 graphics card is just as capable, especially when coupled with the 15.4in widescreen display that can support a high 1280 x 800 resolution. The 60Gb hard disk is more than welcome and the recordable DVD drive supports DVD+R/RW discs.

The Voyager comes with plenty of connection options such as three USB 2 sockets and FireWire. Those interested in audio will appreciate the S/P-DIF optical port, which outputs music in high-quality digital format. A memory card reader can be found on the right of the notebook, accepting SD, MMC, SmartMedia and Memory Stick cards.

A copy of Pinnacle Studio 9 SE is included for editing video. Other software on the notebook includes Microsoft Works version 7 and Instant CD/DVD 8 SE for creating your own CDs and DVDs.

To round things off is a useful wireless mouse. Touchpads are fine, but for lengthy notebook use a mouse is always a better option. As this notebook will probably be used mostly on a desk, the hefty 3.3kg weight is not a major consideration. However, the two hours of battery life is reasonably good for a machine of this size and power.
