Looks really can deceive. Perched on a table in our labs, this Evesham computer looked much like any other. Nestled among its beige brothers, nothing suggested that this was going to be the fastest PC we've ever tested.
The Evolution 2.53 trounced all previous records for overall performance in our lab, thanks in no small part to the Intel Pentium 4 2.53GHz processor. For now at least, this is the fastest PC processor on the market.
Combined with the processor is a giant 100GB hard disk and generous 512MB of DDR memory so, if it's speed and size you're after, this is a good bet. Whatever work you want to do, this system will do it at a fair old pace.
The specifications are sure to catch the eye of the gamers among you. The DDR memory, processor and roomy hard disk are just half the story, with the GeForce4 Ti4600 graphics card from Leadtek making up the balance. These combined to post another record-breaking performance in our 3D graphics test.
If you want the very fastest and smoothest gaming experience around then this takes some beating. The 19in LG 915 Flatron CRT monitor complements the great graphics with a crystal sharp display. TFT screens might look nicer on your desk but, for high resolution and clarity, CRT is still best.
The great visuals are matched by great audio. There's a Creative SoundBlaster Audigy sound card and a set of 5.1 Creative speakers, which offer surround sound for DVD movies and games.
The Audigy also features a FireWire slot so you can make use of the pacy processor with some video editing. Combined with the normal selection of plugs and four USB ports, its connection options are pretty good.
The obligatory modem is present and there's a network port for hooking up to the internet or any other computers you have at home.
There is a TV-out port so you can hook the system up to your television to watch DVDs. With both DVD-Rom and CD-RW drives there are plenty of options for watching films and recording discs and there is also room for another drive, just in case you fancy adding a DVD recorder in the future.
For upgrading, four free PCI slots are available but, with such great graphics and sound included, it is unlikely you'll need all of these.
With software for DVD movie watching, CD recording, office tasks and video editing, everything you need to get started is in the box.
But considering that almost all day-to-day applications and programs can be run on a two year-old PC, is all this extra power absolutely necessary?
For gaming and video editing, having that extra processing muscle really makes a difference but many users won't need it. If you've wrung every last drop of performance out of a computer, give Evesham a call.
For most people though, getting a less beefy system from the Evesham range will offer plenty of performance without a wallet-busting price tag.
