Every so often, among many minor upgrades and impressive software suites, we see a product so useful that we wonder how we ever did without it. FlashGO is one, even though there are oodles of digital devices on the market that use memory cards for storing data.

While your computer might be equipped with a USB port, your handheld computer, MP3 player or digital camera might only use a snail-like serial or parallel port method of sharing information. This is especially typical of slightly older products and means that it takes an absolute age to transfer an album's worth of tunes or your latest holiday snaps.

As different devices and manufacturers favour different media formats, if you're a gadget nut, you could find yourself with all manner of memory cards floating about. What FlashGO provides is a single, fast means of hooking these media up to your PC.

It's an incredibly simple affair. Once the installation CD has done its thing, FlashGO plugs straight into your computer's USB port.

Most PC USB ports are hidden awkwardly beneath a jungle of wires at the rear of the PC. A handy extension cable means that you can just pop the FlashGO conveniently on your desk and use it like an ordinary disk drive and that's exactly how your system will treat it, too. A new drive letter will be assigned to the device and you'll then be able to access all the data stored on your memory cards and even write to them as if they were disks.

At £70, it's not the cheapest accessory, and those who already have the very latest, USB-friendly gadgets might find the FlashGO a little superfluous.

For the rest of us, it's a brilliantly fast, tidy and efficient hub for all our digital accessories.
