Why can't I print web pages?

Remove spyware from your computer to stop printing errors

Q When trying to print from the internet with Internet Explorer, using either the Print icon or by going to the File menu and selecting Print, I receive an error message and the print doesn’t work.

It says: “An error has occurred in the script on this page. Line: 93. Char: 1. Error: Access is denied. Code: 0. URL res://C:WINDOWS\system32\shdoclc.dll/preview.dlg”.

The printer is an Epson CX 6600 and it works fine otherwise – all of the other programs on the computer can print without problems. I am using Windows XP Home with Service Pack 2 installed.

A This occurs because a piece of spyware called Surfairy is installed on your computer.
One of its side-effects is that it stops Internet Explorer from printing, hence the error message detailed above.

To remove Surfairy, click on the Start button and then select Run, and then type ‘c:\program files\surfairy\uninstall.exe’ (without the quotes) and follow any instructions that appear on the screen.

If that doesn’t work, or if Surfairy can’t be uninstalled, try using a spyware killer such as Ad-Aware or Spybot Search and Destroy, both of which should be able to remove the program.

Failing that, you can stop Surfairy from working by disabling browser extensions in Internet Explorer. To do so, click on the Tools menu in Internet Explorer, and select Options, then the Advanced tab. Scroll down to the entry ‘Enable third-party browser extensions’ and click on it to remove the tick. Click on OK, then restart Internet Explorer.

However, this might not remove Surfairy, and it may also disable any toolbars, such as the Google Toolbar, that you have installed.
