Napster has launched the first 'official' Apple Mac version of its file sharing tool that features several technologies not available in the PC version.

The company has added a toolbar in colours that match the new iMac flavours, and a history feature that allows users to keep track of their last 10 searches.

Mac users can also customise their list views, hide 'dockable' chat windows in the toolbar, and drag and drop their music files between folders or the desktop.

Napster founder Shawn Fanning said: "Napster for the Mac provides the total Napster experience wrapped in a Mac-friendly user interface."

Napster for the Mac was developed by the same team that created Macster, an 'unofficial' version of the file sharing tool for Apple computers. The product was eventually acquired by Napster and has been redeveloped as an 'official' version, said the music download company.

Mac users can download the application at www.napster.com/mac
